She Paved a Path to Wellness from Her Own Hardships——A Profile of Wang Qianwen, Inheritor of Xuanyan Dao Culture, and Her Wellness Courtyard

By the Yishui Lake in Baoding, Hebei Province, a courtyard has just been renovated. A new cooking stove has been built, and the beds freshly made. Everything is starting from scratch. The owner of the courtyard is Wang Qianwen, also known by her courtesy name Zhixianzi, an inheritor of Xuanyan Dao Culture. While attending a Xuanyan Dao wellness training camp in Yunnan at the moment, her heart is constantly with her newly-established courtyard. She wonders whether all the hardships and journeys she has endured over the years can truly pave a road to health for others.

1.png

I. A Farmer’s Daughter and Her Choice of Economics 。

Wang Qianwen, originally named Wang Liwei, was born into an ordinary farming family. In her childhood, what she saw most often was her parents bending over to work in the farm fields. Back then, she secretly made a vow: when she grew up, she would earn plenty of money so her parents would no longer have to toil.

When filling out college applications after high school graduation, her father suggested she study medicine or teaching. However, she resolutely chose Economics at Dalian Maritime University. Her reasoning was simple: studying economics would help her make money, and with that money, her parents could live an easier life.

After graduation, Wang Qianwen worked successively as a purchaser at STX (Dalian) Offshore & Engineering and Hebei Yongliang Textiles. She was so swamped with work that she barely had time to drink water. Soon, her body sent out warning signals. Every winter, she suffered repeated colds and fevers. Worse still, due to severe physical exhaustion, she miscarried during her first pregnancy. It was around that time that she was introduced to moxibustion. After a period of conditioning, her physical condition improved greatly. That was the first time she truly witnessed the remarkable power of wisdom from traditional Chinese medicine.

On the 16th day of the first lunar month in 2020, her father passed away. Restricted by special circumstances, they could not go to a hospital. She stayed by his side, overwhelmed by a surge of helplessness. She blamed herself repeatedly: if she had listened to her father and studied medicine, would he not have left so soon? Would she have been able to help him when he needed her most? This thought pricked at her heart, and became the deep reason why she later devoted herself wholeheartedly to traditional Chinese wellness.

I. Twenty-One Days of High Fever and the Light of Moxa

After her health recovered, Wang Qianwen became pregnant again. Yet frequent conflicts and emotional stress with her parents-in-law during pregnancy left their child with a frail constitution after birth. The little one fell ill easily. The most unforgettable ordeal was when the child suffered a continuous high fever for twenty-one days. The kid would be lively in the daytime, yet the temperature would soar to 40°C every night. Both traditional Chinese and Western medicine were tried, yet no cause could be found. For twenty-one straight days, Wang Qianwen barely slept. Holding her burning child, she could not stop her tears.

When she was nearly desperate, a mentor guided her to apply moxibustion on two acupoints. In less than half an hour, the child’s fever broke. At that moment, Wang Qianwen burst into tears. One stick of moxa, two acupoints, and less than thirty minutes solved a problem that had tormented her for weeks. From that day on, she resolved to dive deep into learning moxibustion. Later she opened a moxibustion studio, hoping to help other helpless mothers like herself.

3.png

III.Following Her Mentor and Embarking on Systematic Learning

If her child’s illness brought Wang Qianwen through the gate of traditional Chinese wellness, meeting her mentor marked the most important turning point in her life.

In 2019, Wang Qianwen met her mentor, Mr. Liu Xuanyan, a popular science educator of traditional Chinese wellness and founder of Xuanyan Dao Culture. She was deeply captivated the first time she attended his lecture. What the mentor shared was not merely knowledge of Chinese wellness, but wisdom of life, and a fundamental way of viewing the world and health. From then on, she set out on the path of systematic learning of traditional Chinese health preservation and never looked back. Over the years, she has traveled across most of China alongside her mentor, participating in every single course. Her accumulated notes amount to nearly ten million words.

What her mentor taught her went far beyond practical techniques including moxibustion, tuina massage and dietary conditioning. He passed on a complete system of life wisdom: daily diet and living routines, emotional regulation, movement guidance, spiritual cultivation, and even harmony within families. Most importantly, with the vision of "building a platform through culture, developing business via economy, and taking the lead with public welfare", her mentor taught her how to translate wellness wisdom into a sustainable undertaking — to promote the Dao through wealth, uphold virtue to carry responsibilities, and achieve self-fulfillment while benefiting others. Setting aside sectarian barriers, her mentor also recommended her to study under Professor Yang Meixiang, chief physician at Guoyitang, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and an inheritance mentor of the Yanjing School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This helped her build a solid foundation of TCM theories, which proved invaluable when caring for her husband after his stroke. She often says that without meeting her mentor, she would not be who she is today.

4.png

IV. Loving One’s Own Children, Then Extending to All; Self-Reflection as Spiritual Practice

At the beginning of her studies away from home, Wang Qianwen was filled with guilt. While she was out learning, her child ran a fever at home and she could not stay beside them. Senior fellow practitioner Demao comforted her: "If you love your own children, extend that care to all children. Your studies are for the benefit of countless families. Do not worry excessively about your own." These words lit up her heart. Surprisingly, as she delved deeper into her studies, her child’s health kept improving. The fever once lasted a week, then five days, three days, one day. Now her children are influenced by what she has learned. They understand illnesses stem from poor lifestyle habits, can identify triggers when catching colds, and know what foods to avoid during recovery.

Learning traditional Chinese wellness has not only protected her family’s health but also taught her to "look inward for answers" — to seek reasons within herself when troubles arise. Gradually, her relationship with her husband improved, as did her bond with her parents-in-law. She often remarks: wellness cultivation nourishes not just the body, but the mind and temperament.

5.png

 V. A Brush with Death: Her Husband’s Brainstem Hemorrhage

If her child’s sickness led her into wellness, her husband’s severe illness strengthened her resolve to build the wellness courtyard.

At the end of 2025, her husband suffered a sudden brainstem hemorrhage, barely surviving. She now bore the whole burden of the family: elderly parents to support, two young children to raise, and a husband fighting for his life. Fortunately, the wellness knowledge she had systematically learned from her mentor became her anchor in this crisis. She refused to be defeated. While cooperating with hospital treatment, she used her wellness expertise to nurse him. During that difficult time, she cared for her hospitalized husband, kept working to support the household, comforted the elderly, and still found time to obtain multiple certificates: Certified TCM Psychological Counselor, TCM Constitution Identification and Conditioning Specialist, TCM Health Preservation Nutritionist, and Tea Art Master. When people asked how she endured it all, she smiled and replied: "What choice did I have? With no one to lean on behind me, if I am not brave, who will stand strong for us?"

After regaining consciousness, her husband fell into despair, thinking his life was ruined. Wang Qianwen spent more than half a year patiently comforting and guiding him. Eventually, he realized his stroke was caused entirely by poor living habits: smoking, staying up late, drinking cold beverages, endlessly scrolling on his phone, ordering takeout, being idle, and stubbornly refusing advice. He said: "I was so selfish. I ignored all your warnings, caring only for my own pleasure even though we had elders and children to look after." He also acknowledged that his survival was owed to professional long-term care and the wellness knowledge Wang Qianwen learned from her mentor. Yet many people like him lack health awareness. They harm their own bodies through bad habits and regret it only once serious illness strikes, when it may already be too late.

6.png

VI. Compassion Forged from Suffering: The Birth of the Wellness Courtyard

Her husband reflected that he had lived a muddled first half of his life and refused to continue this way. The two reached an agreement: to build a wellness courtyard. Years earlier, their mentor had encouraged disciples to establish such courtyards. Back then, Wang Qianwen and her husband were tempted, yet hesitated in their comfort zone and put the idea aside. But after this life-threatening illness, they could wait no longer. They resolved to become practitioners of the "Wellness Project", translating the wellness wisdom learned from their mentor into real action to benefit more families. They want to show people an alternative choice beyond illness — another way of living, by treating ourselves well.

Easier said than done. Wang Qianwen used to struggle driving for just half an hour, yet to find a suitable location for the courtyard, she drove seven to eight hours every day, traveling deep into the mountains of Baoding, Hebei. After returning home, she still needed to look after her two young children and her husband with limited mobility. What supported this woman to take on such a huge mission amid an economic downturn? It was compassion. Having traveled so many rough roads and endured so much suffering, she wanted to hold an umbrella for others and light the way for those coming after her. Having been rescued by TCM wisdom and illuminated by her mentor’s guidance in her darkest hours, she hopes to pass on this warmth and light. Today, the courtyard is finally established. Although everything has just begun, the fire burning in Wang Qianwen’s heart grows brighter and stronger.

7.png

VII. Lifelong Learning: Committed to Every Training Session

Wang Qianwen understands that passion alone cannot sustain such an undertaking. Professional expertise and operational capabilities matter most. For this fourteen-day training camp in Yunnan, her husband, who cannot yet fully take care of himself, fully supported her journey. He told her: "Go ahead. I will manage things at home. The more you learn, the more people you can help."

Wang Qianwen says she will faithfully follow her mentor and attend every Xuanyan Dao wellness training camp and Life & Entrepreneurship Exchange Forum. At the wellness camps, she will deepen her knowledge of diet, psychology and physical exercise for wellness. At the entrepreneurship forums, she will master economic operation and management skills, putting into practice her mentor’s philosophy: "building a platform through culture, developing business via economy, and taking the lead with public welfare". Culture nurtures temperament, economy creates value, and public welfare accumulates blessings. She aims for professionalism and sound management. She knows only when she herself is competent can she truly help others; only when the courtyard operates steadily can it benefit people for a long time, fulfilling the mission of promoting the Dao through wealth and carrying virtue.

8.png

Conclusion: The Lamp of Compassion

Wang Qianwen often says she has endured countless hardships along her path. Yet those hardships have been refined into remedies for others. She turns the detours she took into signposts for others, and the pain she bore into a path to wellness. Beside the Yishui River in Baoding, Hebei, this newly-built wellness courtyard is like a newly lit lamp. Its glow may be gentle, yet warm and unwavering. Her courtesy name Zhixianzi means "one who knows tranquility". Knowing tranquility brings peace. This tranquility is not ease or idleness, but composure forged by storms; not escape, but commitment after seeing the reality of life and death.

As a practitioner of the "Wellness Project", Wang Qianwen will keep moving forward. She will faithfully follow her mentor, till the fertile soil of cultural rejuvenation, forge ahead amid economic waves, and walk steadily on the path of public welfare and altruism. Every step she takes paves the road for those who follow; every lamp she lights guides the lost.
